Biography

Helen Adrienne, LCSW, BCD, has been a licensed clinical social worker in private practice since 1979.  She has served men, women and couples both as a general therapist and as a specialist in the mental health impact of reproductive issues.  She conducts mind/body stress reduction classes for NYU Fertility Center and is a New York State approved provider of trainings for mental health professionals on the parameters of infertility at national and international conferences.  Helen has authored many articles on infertility which can be found on The Baby Manifest-O Blog on her web site, www.helenadrienne.com.

A graduate of Rutgers University and Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service, Helen went on to train in Family Therapy and Ericksonian Hypnotherapy.  She is a board certified Diplomat in Clinical Social Work and an approved consultant for the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

            Master of Social Work (MSW) – Fordham University, 1979.  Focused my training on clinical aspects of personal, interpersonal, family and group dynamics.

            Bachelor of Arts (BA in American Studies) – Douglass College, 1967.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Psychotherapist – May, 1979 – present. Private practice in

New York City and Suffern, New York (now Ramsey, New Jersey).  I am a general therapist, with a specialty in the emotional dimensions of obstetrics and gynecology, especially infertility.  I work on both a long and short term basis with individuals and couples and run mind/body stress-reduction classes for infertility.

  • Group Leader - May, 2001 – present. I have run 10-week or day-long

mind/body psychoeducational support groups for infertility patients.  Since 2009 I run stress-reduction groups at the prestigious NYU Fertility Center.

  • Supervisor – September, 1979 – present. Several private

Practitioners, trainees or ASCH members have worked under my supervision.

  • Faculty – October 2007 – 2011. Taught hypnosis for the New York

Society for Ericksonian Psychotherapy and Hypnosis (NYSEPH).

  • Co-Trainer – with Dr. Jeffrey Zeig in the Master Class in Ericksonian Hypnotherapy, which I host. 2011 and ongoing.
  • Faculty Member – Rockland Community College in the credit-

free program, 1983 – 1996 (program terminated due to finances).  Led workshops on premenstrual syndrome and menopause.

  • Adjunct Instructor of Obstetrics and Gynecology – Lectured

to medical students and attendings on the emotional aspects of infertility.

WORKSHOPS AND CONFERENCES:  

 

  • I have sponsored and organized 66 Master Classes to date featuring the

Dr. Jeffrey Zeig, founder and director of the Milton H. Erickson Foundation.  Each class meets for four days (28 CEU hours, approved by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH)).  May, 2002 – ongoing.

  • I have presented on the profile of and use of hypnosis and other

techniques with infertility patients at the ASCH and Milton H. Erickson Foundation conferences (national and international) and I have been guest speaker at conferences for infertility patients themselves.

  • Designed, organized and implemented in conjunction with Rockland

Community College “Menopause: A Transition”.  The conference was partially financed by winning an American Association of University Women grant for a valuable community outreach project.  Delivered keynote address: Emotional Explosions, Sexual Implosions – How Not To Be Held Hostage By Your Hormones.  Two hundred women were in attendance.  October 16, 1993.

  • I have been guest speaker or workshop leader on the

following topics:  Calming the frenzy of infertility; Cultivating the implicit partnership between gynecological and mental health services; premenstrual syndrome; menopause; the emotional profile of the infertile patient; the impact of infertility on marriage; the emotional aspects of donor insemination; what to expect when expecting; experiential workshops on stress reduction for infertility and adoption and understanding the infertile patient for professionals.  1979 – ongoing.
